Recovery is an essential step after a facelift, and it’s normal to have some apprehension over it. Dr. David Gilpin will be available at every step to help you recover successfully, and you’ll discuss it at length during your consultation. Still, it can be helpful to know what to expect and how you can prepare for this phase of your journey. Here’s what to know about your recovery schedule and what you can expect at each step.

Day 0

On the day of your surgery, you’ll return home with a headwrap and potentially drains. You may not experience much aside from some sleepiness and some soreness. Dr. Gilpin performs all procedures in a way that makes your body the most comfortable during the procedure, meaning you will not have to worry about significant pain at all in recovery. Should you have significant pain in recovery this is something you need to contact the doctor about.  At this point, your face may feel swollen and tight, which is what you want at this point. Try to rest as much as possible during the first 24 hours.

Days 1-3

Throughout the first few days of recovery, you’ll experience swelling and potentially some bruising. This stage of recovery can be the most difficult. Dr. Gilpin will give you medications in order to manage any discomfort, and you may start to experience low mood as you navigate the changes. Following aftercare steps is key, such as remaining in an upright position and following up with our team. By the end of the first few days, you’ll begin to feel more comfortable and able to perform light tasks around the house.

Days 4-7

By the end of the first week, you should see a noticeable improvement in your comfort level and your appearance. Bruising and swelling should begin to fade, giving you a better picture of your final results. You’ll find it easier to move around the house and return to your daily schedule, although you may not feel comfortable returning to your job and public just yet, you will in the next few days. Continue to rest and follow instructions, checking in with our team if you begin to experience any unusual asymmetric swelling.

Days 8-14

You should be mostly recovered within two weeks of a facelift. Schedule dinner with friends now! You should feel comfortable in public and even going out to dinner, it might still feel tight when turning your head but otherwise, we encourage you to get back in your regular routine with the exception of your full blown exercise routine. at the end of the second week. You may have some residual tightness, bruising, and swelling, but these side effects should be mostly subsided by the second week. Your results will continue to refine over the following weeks and months, slowly revealing your final results.
